Do You Need to Be Smart to Play Poker?
When we think of online poker players, we often think of highly intelligent people who can quickly calculate pot odds and read the table. However, these skills can often be learned. If online poker is basically an acquired skill, then, is it right to claim that poker players are somehow smarter than other people? Unfortunately for all of you poker players out there, it is not right to claim that poker players are simply more intelligent than other people because they win games. We need to look at this assumption to unravel the real roots of a good poker game. Can anyone win? Or can only the select few win the big pots?
Let’s look at the facts. If all of the main qualities of a good poker player can be learned, then it is not right to claim that good players have more brain power than their less successful counterparts. They simply have more dedication and practice. Good poker online playing is a battle of willpower and dedication, not of intellectual superiority. While this may be disheartening to some players who are used to thinking that they are an intellectual cut above just because they win, it is welcome news for the rest of us. Anyone can be a poker star, not just the special few with the big brains.
