Bikes + Bikers

“You can never be too paranoid”. That sums it up when talking about someone wanting to relieve you of your hard earned Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Bike thieves have nothing but time and imagination when it comes to stealing bikes. It is up to you to know how bikes are stolen and what you can do to prevent it.

Most bike thefts occur after hours under the cover of darkness. The vast majority of bikes are simply rolled away out of sight into a waiting truck. A locked up front forks and a lock on the front wheel can help to prevent this type of theft.

In the past, some thieves have used devices like skateboards under the front wheel in order to move the bike where they want. In reality, four strong men can pick up a bike up off the ground and toss it into the back of a pickup in mere seconds.

High quality chain or cable can be used to anchor your bike to a power pole or even to other bikes. This method can be effective to the thief who wants a clean and quick getaway. It takes a bit more time to use a bolt cutter or chain cutter can to slice through these devices.

An audible alarm can signal you and others nearby when your bike becomes disturbed. This type of device can be very effective. Some of these alarms will even call your pager or telephone when your bike has moved. These devices are generally more effective to prevent night thefts.

The bottom line is if somebody wants to steal your Harley Davidson motorcycle, somehow or someway it will likely happen no matter what prevention measures you take. No one special has designed these theft prevention devices. Professional thieves always have a way of getting around them.

The idea behind all these security gadgets is only to deter the would be criminals and send them to down the street looking for easier prey.

All or a few of these security devices I talked about used in combination can be very effective in preventing motorcycle theft!

I guess if all else fails, you can always bring your bike with you in your bedroom at night.

The 2005 Victory Hammer blows away every competitor on the manufacturing side with a 250mm rear tire for the Victory Hammer. The Victory Hammer has the fattest ever fitted rear tire to be attached to a mass produced motorcycle. It is at least 50mm wider than the competition. It will turn heads.

The Victory Hammer is no doubt an undeniably a motorcycle with attitude. The Victory’s Hammer debuts Victory’s new 100cubic inch 6-speed power train. When you ride the Victory Hammer, you will never mistake it for its smaller Victory siblings: Kingpin, 8-Ball, Vegas. By smaller, I mean smaller engine displacement. I own a Kingpin with the 92 cubic inch engine. I could use the extra boost in power the Hammer provides when hauling a passenger. After all, it’s all about the horsepower.

The Victory Hammer definitely feels different from a traditional cruiser. The Victory Hammer is very balanced and predictable. The Victory Hammer also feels lighter and more balanced than its smaller Victory siblings: Kingpin, 8-Ball, Vegas.

Even if The Victory Hammer’s disposition steers towards the straight-line dragster, there is still enough handling for the twisty turns and high-speed cornering. You won’t keep up with the sport bikes that you once rode, but you won’t lose site of them either.

The Victory Hammer has seen spiked interest at the various motorcycle shows. While other manufacturers are offering more of the same, Victory comes out with a motorcycle that gets everyone saying, “Wow, what is that and when can I get one.” Now that The Victory Hammer is arriving at your local Victory dealership, hurry up and see one because they are selling faster than imagined. There are not even any bikes in the shops for demo rides.

You may be looking at the fat 250mm rear tire and wonder, “For whom did Victory build the Hammer?” What was their target consumer? Was it the chopper show watchers? Maybe? It is my opinion that the target consumer for the badass Victory Hammer is the experienced rider, someone that owns, or has owned, sport bikes. These are riders that have reached the stage where they do not require going quite so fast or having the desire to be stuck in the racer’s crouch position.

Some basic Hammer specifications: The Hammer has a 5-gallon fuel tank. Cruising at approximately 70mph, this bike averages 40MPG. 100 cubic inch displacement, 50-degree V-Twin, 76 rear-whell hp and 86 foot-pounds torque. Frame has been narrowed for cornering clearance. Six-speed transmission, with the sixth gear being for overdrive. The Hammer has new primary gears, pump drive, and a new cam drive.

Someone at Victory should get a raise, because the concept to production of the Victory Hammer is a real winner.

Impressions from new Victory Hammer owners:
I will say the Hammer is, in my opinion, one of the coolest looking production bikes on the market. As far as the rear tire being the largest in the production industry, I believe it is. But the Rocket III comes close with a 240mm. The Hammer is not the best handling bike made, but it does handle well. It’s not the fastest, but it is fast. It’s not the most comfortable, but it is comfortable. But after riding for 75 miles today, and having to head home because of the incoming rains, I just can’t get the grin off my face. It’s just plain cool. It’s like a super-sexy woman. It has great curves, big jugs, a nice a$$, and real attitude.

The minimoto carbon race reed is an easy to fit performance part which is designed to give optimum engine fuelling conditions providing large gains in acceleration and top speed. The standard reeds used in all air cooled Chinese minimotos are manufactured from stainless steel and are prone to flutter at high revs resulting in a loss of power and engine stuttering Following are the easy to follow instructions for fitting your performance carbon race reeds:-

Fitting of minimoto carbon race reeds

1) First of all remove the black air filter unit from the rear of the carburator by undoing and removing the two crosshead
securing screws.

2) Ensure the petrol tap is turned OFF and remove the petrol pipe from the carburator by depressing the retaining clip and gently pulling clear.

3) Undo the knurled top of the carburator and lift off carefully, the throttle slide which is attached to the throttle cable will lift clear.

4) Then undo and remove the two Allen screws which go through the carburator body securing it to the engine, and lift the carb away.

5) Undo and remove the 4 Allen screws that retain the carburator manifold and reed block and lift clear.

6) The reed block has 2 crosshead screws which retain the reed (the standard reed being stainless and split). Undo the two crosshead screws then remove the standard stainless reed and replace with the carbon race reed.
Note: To get more power you can remove the centre bar of the reed manifold by using a small saw (this is optional).

7) Now just reverse the procedure using thread locking compound on all screws to ensure they do not vibrate loose it.

Now experience and enjoy the power gains from your newly fitted carbon race reeds.

Minimotos4u carbon race reeds are made from Pre-preg dual laminate carbon fibre sheet cut to within 0.1mm tolerance.
