All online poker players, no matter how sharp, experience some bad beats. It is an inevitable part of the game. You are holding top set, then a weak player who has called all your bets, gets lucky and hits runner-runner on the turn and river to make a small flush.

Your good online poker hand got smashed by bad luck and it’s easy to think that fortune is against you and that anything that can go wrong will do so. You are angry that weak players don’t play according to sound poker principles and draw out against you.

This is wrongheaded thinking. Luck is always an element that can influence the outcome of a poker online hand. You must see beyond this and turn it into a positive factor in your game. Don’t begrudge the poor player who keeps calling and then puts a bad beat on you. For every instance of this happening, that weak player calls and calls many hands only to lose and forfeit their chips to smarter players.

Look for these weak players at your table and target them. When they do hit the one-in-ten lucky hand for a suck-out, compliment the play instead of deriding it. Keep these players happy at the table and encourage their poor play because in the long run you profit from them.
