A week after the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 hit the shelves, a lot of PC players seem to have managed to create a workaround solution for the IWNet system that has replaced the dedicated servers in this new Infinity Ward game. When the developers announced that it will junk the dedicated linux servers and replace them with the new matchmaking setup that resembles the console playing experience, hundreds and thousands of gamers expressed their protest by signing a petition.
Now, many of the code-savvy petitioners and complainers have reportedly come up with the dedicated server experience for the PC game. This is by unlocking the game’s developer consoler.
IWNet, however, still classifies the servers as legal and ranked, says Destructoid. A video is going around the internet, showing the altered gameplay and how the developer console works, which then led to the breakthrough.
One can only expect to hear a response from Infinity Ward and Activision any time soon. They might even work on the issue sooner than expected especially if this new development will cause new cheats and gameplay hacks. One of the main purposes of the IWNet is to regulate these activities such as hacks, aiming augmentation, non-recoiling guns and anything else that can cause gamers to cheat.
It’s not uncommon to hear of such feats particularly in online first-person shooters. However, what makes this particular development so interesting is the fact that it happened just shortly after the game was launched. As such, companies should never underestimate the fortitude of obsessive PC gamers that have more than enough time in their hands to create hackable grievance.
